Here are some tips
and general advice that can help you win at online
Poker.
1. Avoid Showing Your Cards
You'll see many pros show their cards
after a bluff, or to show their
strength. It can be a great method to
achieve a particular table image you can
later exploit. However, you are
basically giving away free
information, and it's always better to keep
your opponents guessing. It's the case
of either making what is only sometimes the
correct thing to do, or what is always the
correct thing to do. So stick to hiding
your cards as often as possible is
overall the better option.
2. Choose a Good table
Table selection is
essential, if you sit down at a table
full of sharks you aren't going to win
any money. Luckily most Poker rooms
provide statistics for each table, these
can give you a good idea as to what type
of players are currently sitting down.
Take a look
at the view flop percentages, and
average pot size. The higher these are,
the looser the game is. It's always better to wait a while and get onto a good table,
rather then
to play
immediately at a bad one. Also, don't just sit in the first available seat.
Evaluate who is at the table, sit to the
left of aggressive/loose players, and keep tight/conservative players to your right.
3. Take
Notes on Your Opponents
Knowing your opponents and their style
is essential for succeeding at Poker. As
you are playing Poker you are constantly gaining information on
your opponents. This information will be
long forgotten once you leave a room. Most
Poker rooms allow note-taking, so use it.
Chances are that your opponents have
notes on you!
4. Use Poker Tracker
If you play a lot of
online Poker you will probably want to
evaluate your game. Poker Tracker is the
very best in statistical software. It records all of the
hands that you have played, and lets you
know which hands are the biggest winners
and which are the biggest losers. It
also records information on all of your
opponents, and much more. Every serious
online Poker player uses Poker Tracker,
and you can get it for free
here!
5. See Your Opponents
Cards!
While there are
plenty of scams available on the internet
claiming to allow you to cheat and see
what your opponents are holding....
There is however, one trick that many
people do not know: it is possible to
see players mucked cards after the
showdown. Simply go to the hand history
and they'll be there!
6. Always
Wait For The Blinds
Some players like to start playing
straight away, while others like to
wait. The advantages to waiting after a full
rotation is that not only are you saving
money, you can also pick up information
on your opponents.
7. Use a
4-coloured Deck
While it may look unattractive, it is
there for a reason. It makes it so much
easier to spot flush-draws, and
virtually eliminates mis-reads. Once you
get used to it you'll wonder why they
even have an option to play with a
standard deck.
